Introducing Nerd Revolt!

I'm extremely happy to introduce my new project, "Nerd Revolt". It's why I've gone underground for the past 6 months or so, and it also introduces my new collaborator Catherine Jade. An extremely talented writer (check out our new blog: "dejaded"), musician, and DJ.

I've never had the opportunity to work with a fellow classically trained player/synthesist with such a similar background to my own. The musical bidirectional communication has been insane. It's been like working with my doppelgänger. Really eerie, but I'm luvin' the end results. Hope ya dig the new beats.

Nerd Revolt's Myspace page.

Here's some more info on us:

"After years of being angst-ridden hermits, m.0 and Catherine Jade met and started creating mad nuclear experiments in the studio. Through their “Therapy for Alienated Nerds and Aliens” group, they helped each other get past the negative forces in club-land to form an underground Nerd Revolt. They each took a solemn vow to overcome the jadedness of the scene and inspire others through their beats.

Both trained musicians, they each carry a unique style and sound, but more importantly they believe in bringing a positive vibe and energy to electronic music (which can also be witnessed on their blog at: www.dejaded.com). Their joint arsenal is a deadly one, consisting of 2 laptops with Ableton Live, hardware and software synths, plugins, MIDI controllers, and tons of sound-mangling weapons that threaten to crush your brain. They believe in creating “conscious shit for people who do shit” and hope to stir up a revolution of studio hermits across the land."

NCIS Soundtrack to be released on Feb. 10, 2009

Yes, yes, I admit I've been a terrible citizen of the internet for the past few months and this site has gotten zero love as a result. A lot of that has to do with some of the stuff I've been hiding away working on. I've been working on some new releases for the upcoming year, started a new project that I'm completely excited about (more on that one post Christmas) and I have been doing some work preparing for this:

Some of you might know that back in the day (well, er, 2003) I co-wrote the main title theme song (along with Neil Martin, Matt Hawkins aka Numeriklab) for the CBS crime/drama show NCIS. It's been quite an amazing and surreal experience watching the show grow over the years to what it has become today. On February 10, 2009, CBS will be releasing a 2-disc Soundtrack with various artists featured on the show. It will also feature an extended version of our little theme song that could. They haven't fully announced the artists to be included and I'll wait until they do that to say more. However, from the tidbit of info I've gotten about the line-up so far, I'm extremely stoked to have been included in any manner with this project. The show and everyone involved with it have become quite near and dear to me.

Here's the link to the website supporting the release.

NCIS Soundtrack

ps. As soon I'm finish wrestling with the mix from hell (it's funny how the concept of mad bass becomes such a challenge when you have to mix it all together in the end, but I digress), I'll start having some stuff to post again. Stay warm you guys.

For dirty filthy beats that make you want to dance, the Innerflight Showcase will not disappoint. Funky grime meets real time and a tech-house will be built out of pure passion and the thrill of creation. A Seattle power player of music production and party promotion, Innerflight has kept the community on its toes by bringing to the city talent the likes of Mike Monday; his eclectic, multifaceted style is a perfect match for the label, pushing musical boundaries past the point of genre and into a world of sound that can only be empirically understood and never described. Monday’s sound can be found anywhere from the land of ambient melodies to the ocean of electro-funk to the sky-high realms of hip-hop; his new release on Om Records, “Songs Without Words– Part I” is due for release in September.

Noah Pred recently killed at MUTEK with a live tech-house PA; his innovative percussion techniques, user-friendly dance beats, and portentious bass lines are infused with sense of humor that goes needle-in-groove with Innerflight’s lived mentality of spontaneity and straight-up funkiness. Along with Seattle scene superstars Kadeejah Streets, J-Sun, and m.0 (with single “Lift Us Up” soon to be released on the Innerflight Label), this showcase will illuminate the versatility bred from open musical minds and eclectic environments, much to your ongoing pleasure and delight- if you like dirty filthy beats that make you want to dance, that is.

MIKE MONDAY
DJ (London)
[Om]

London producer Mike Monday has been known for pushing boundaries with his unique sound, and judging from his background, it’s not hard to see why. He studied music at Oxford University and started one of the first live electronic bands, Beat Foundation, with Andy Cato of Groove Armada. “What Day Is It?” and “Zum Zum” topped the dance charts, and his single “Bhalobashi” was named “one of the top 100 essential dance tracks of the last 10 years” by IDJ Magazine. His debut album, “Smorgasbord” is an eclectic set of tunes, showcasing his versatility as a producer with ambient melodies, electro-funk beats, and dark tech house. His next full-length, “Songs Without Words – Part 1” is due out on Om Records this September. Mixing up the flavors of house, funk, hip hop, and disco, Mike Monday brings a distinctive style and sense of humor to dance music that’s extremely refreshing.

NOAH PRED
Live (Toronto)
[Thoughtless]

Having put out consistently solid, innovative tracks for almost a decade, Canadian artist Noah Pred continues to drive his unique style even further. As a DJ and live act, he expertly blends tech-house grooves, dark synths, and bleepy beats to create a completely fresh sound that sets him apart. Soulful melodies and funky percussion layered over ominous basslines make for a style that’s both musically interesting and dancefloor-friendly. In 2004, he started another project named Shen as an outlet for more left-field productions, tapping into the influences of dub, downtempo, and IDM. His latest full-length, Ecocosm (New Kanada), was released in 2007, receiving huge support globally. Originally a part of the Vancouver underground scene, he’s since relocated to Toronto, where he runs 2 labels (Thoughtless Music and Sentient Sound), teaches Ableton Live workshops, and has a residency with the long-standing Fukhouse crew.

m. 0
Live (Seattle)

m.0 (em.point.zero) is Maurice Jackson, a composer, producer, and sound designer who now hails from the streets of Seattle. Representing the Innerflight and From 0-1 music collectives, m.0 has been involved in a diverse array of musical projects, from the co-founding of Tekgnosis (glitch, techno, madness), designing sound for the Myst video game franchise, and creating the NCIS TV theme song, to name a few. After touring with the bands Nerve Factor and Deathline International for seminal industrial label COP International and remixing and producing several COP artists, m.0 has rediscovered his techno roots and currently drops sick psychedelic and electro-inspired beats for eager dance crowds who lap up his techno mixes like dying patients begging for an antidote.

J-SUN
DJ (Seattle)

J-Sun (Jason Zucker) is one of the ringleaders of the Seattle electronic scene and has been involved in creating music as well as the community here for almost fifteen years. He is the founder of record label/DJ crew/party-makers Innerflight Music and as such has been responsible for the production of a ridiculous number of electronic events and the many smiles that accompany them. As a DJ, J-Sun has accumulated a loyal following, enamored with his exuberant energy, deep crates, and heady get-down style. His potent programming and lucid mixology never fail to gather the rabble-rousers together to dance to his psychedelic underground house and techno sounds. Whether you find him spinning at a laser-drenched club in the city or outside in the forests of the beautiful Pacific Northwest, J-Sun is a bright-shining fixture on the region’s electronic music scene.

KADEEJAH STREETS
DJ (Seattle)

Innerflight resident Kadeejah Streets has a monopoly on the booty shakin’ beats in Seattle’s clubs. His sets are the ones you hear at the club while talking with friends, and after every three songs find yourself asking “who is this DJ?” Moments later you’re joining the masses on the dance floor in a beat-inspired bonanza. A perfect mix of nü-rave bangers and old-school jams, Kadeejah’s sets are glorious testaments to the persuasive power of a DJ’s mood. With dexterous hands, this musical master turns the underground upside down and shakes it like a Magic 8-Ball, ensuring that you will howl at the moon with your eyes rolled back in your head.
